Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing elderly care and dementia screening, according to Prof Li-Chen Fu of the National Taiwan University Center of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Robotics in Taipei, Taiwan, during a presentation at AOCN 2021.
The aging population is increasing rapidly. Prof. Fu noted that, by 2050, the proportion of people aged 60 years or more is expected to double, and the proportion of patients aged 80 years or more will quadruple.
Health conditions common in older patients, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and dementia, require rapid diagnosis and continuous monitoring. However, given the increasing shortage of well-trained healthcare providers, meeting the healthcare needs of this growing population will be a challenge.
